If you look in the mirror and decide it’s time for straighter teeth, talk with our Polaris dentist about Invisalign.  In the past, braces were the only option for patients wanting straight teeth.  However, with advancements made in the dental industry, now we can offer more solutions to our patients.  As the Polaris dentist residents trust with their oral health, look to our team for Invisalign services.  We’ll explore how Invisalign and braces differ and help you reach your goals.

Braces

Braces are the traditional way of correcting teeth alignment and have been around for ages.  They are made of ceramic or metal alloy materials and consist of wires, brackets, and bands.  These things work together to pull and push teeth into their new position.  Braces are put on the teeth with an adhesive and then the wires are tightened incrementally to move the teeth.   Maintenance for braces includes checkups with your orthodontist, routine oral health care, and a proper diet.  In addition to visiting your orthodontist, you’ll want to keep up to date with visits to our Polaris dentist.

Living with Braces

The purpose of braces usually is to get straighter teeth or correct a bite problem.  The treatment period varies, but typically, patients can expect to wear braces for 2 to 3 years.  Eating while wearing braces takes extra care as you may have to alter how you eat certain foods.  For example, corn on the cob needs to be cut off the cob, apples should be sliced to consume, as well as hard, crunchy vegetables.

Invisalign

Invisalign is similar to braces in how your teeth are moved at a slow pace; however the approach is a bit different.  Invisalign uses trays that are changed out every few weeks.  These trays are based on an original mold of your teeth.  Using a computer-aided design, your trays are then created to reposition your teeth.  The trays help your teeth move and remain in place until you are ready for your next set of trays.  The Invisalign trays are removed for brushing and flossing, and when eating.  Still, it is recommended that they be worn for 22 hours a day or longer.

Both Invisalign and braces do a wonderful job in improving your smile.  Talk with our Polaris dentist team to see what option is best for you.  Learn more about Invisalign on our Facebook page or call us to schedule a consultation.  Let’s work toward getting you the smile you’ve always wanted.
